iPhone Dev Team, the makers of the initial iPhone 4 jailbreak, has stated it won’t be supporting its jailbreak and it has decided to to back away from the ‘cat and mouse’ game with Apple inc.

The initial hack was launched mere weeks following the release of the Apple iPhone 4g and gained great popularity for being an relatively straightforward method. End users could jailbreak their new iphone 4 merely by going to a website.

Dev Team has affirmed that it won’t be offering any new versions of Jailbreak for the new 4..2 firmware, which Apple released to counter the hack.

A post on the Dev Team blog congratulated end users who were able to jailbreak their iphone 4 but also disclosed the team wouldn’t fight constantly with Apple inc any more.

“FW 4..2/3.2.2 was *only* launched to mend the jailbreakme hole,” the team said. “With FW 4.1 still in its beta stages, it makes no sense to escalate the “cat & mouse” with Apple inc for FW updates that just fix the jailbreak holes. To quote WOPR, “the only winning move is not to play.”

The team indicated that continuing the development process this early in the beta firmware period would only benefit Apple.

“If the cat & mouse game was to escalate too quickly, especially during beta FW periods, nobody but Apple benefits. For this reason, there won’t be a 4..2/3.2.2 jailbreak specifically during the period where 4..2/3.2.2 is the latest public release,” it said.

A jailbreak for the PlayStation 3 also recently made its way to the internet.

Mark Papermaster has left Apple inc this week. According to a New York Times article the jury is still out on whether Papermaster was pushed. However the weight of evidence and an anonymous source mentioned in the article seem to be pointing in favor of a big shove from the Apple board.

It was not only the iphone 4 antenna problem that lead to the demise of the ex IBM and now ex Apple executive. There were a series of problems with the ipod nano, not the ipod touch as the NY Times stated and not the Ipad Nano either, as the article in zdnet stated.

Interestingly Apple still denies that there is even a problem. Even though they now ship a free case/bumper with the iphone 4, which conveniently insulates the user from the metal band surounding the iphone that contains the antenna. The iPhone 4 release has become a public relations nightmare for Apple and its enigmatic CEO Steve Jobs. However thinking back to wwdc conference back in July of 2010 I believe the iphone 4 antenna problem was already rearing it’s ugly head. We all remember how embarrassed Jobs got during that presentation and the excuse that he came up with of too many wireless base stations in the room. However it was just a prelude to the massive problems the iphone 4 role out was going to have.

I’m taking my iPhone to Europe and have jailbroken/unlocked it so I can use a European SIM card. When I get it how can I transfer my information from my current SIM to the new one?
